Improvement of erythema dyschromicum perstans using a combination of the 1,550‐nm erbium‐doped fractionated laser and topical tacrolimus ointment

Abstract: The combination of non-ablative fractional photothermolysis and topical tacrolimus ointment is a potential safe and effective therapeutic option for erythema dyschromicum perstans. Additional prospective, comparative studies are warranted. Lasers Surg. Med. 49:60-62, 2017. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

“…No clinical improvement of hyperpigmentation was observed, but PIH occurred and patients considered FLT unsatisfactory. The only case of EDP that was successfully treated using laser was in 2017, as reported by Wolsfshohl et al In this study, a patient was successfully treated with a combination of monthly treatments of 1550-nm erbium-doped, fractionated laser and topical tacrolimus over a period of 5 months. The success of the treatment was hypothesized to be secondary to the laser settings and the additive effect of tacrolimus.…”

“…The disorder is rare in prepubertal children, especially in the Asian population [ 13 ]. In adults, the disorder is more prevalent in the Latin American and Asian population [ 1 , 7 , 9 ]. Dark-skinned individuals (Fitzpatrick types IV and V) are most commonly affected [ 1 , 8 , 9 ].…”

In contrast to the adult population, children with this disorder are usually Caucasians [ 6 , 13 , 14 ].…”
