Improved core loss calculation method considering the non‐uniform distribution of magnetic flux density in powder cores

Abstract: Utilising powder cores in many power electronics applications have gained much attention due to the attractive magnetic properties of powder core materials. However, the magnetic flux density distribution is non-uniform along the core because the flux is dependent on the core geometry and due to the low relative permeability of the powder core material. The non-uniformity of the magnetic flux density distribution may cause huge calculation errors of core losses. Understanding the effect of the magnetic flux no… Show more

“…On the other hand, powder cores are materials that have versatile magnetic characteristics and those are excellent candidates for replacing materials such as ferrite and steel sheets in electric machines applications [109]. The most recent advances in this type of material are presented in [118]- [121]. The powder cores can be found in alternators, transformers, generators, low-frequency filters, induced field coils, electrical components of the aircraft engine, and in DC engines, among others [109].…”

“…Para obtenção das perdas no núcleo magnético, o método de medição elétrica é empregado, em função da simplicidade e precisão, este método é largamente utilizado [10] - [20], [23] e [24]. Utilizando a mesma estratégia de [18], conforme ilustrado pela Figura 2, o primário do núcleo sob teste (NST) é utilizado para excitação CA e CC, estando inserido em um conversor Boost.…”

“…In the 80s [3] and 90s [4] this approach was used, and also one decade later [5] it was studied. Recent publications [6,7] show that core loss measurement is still a crucial topic. Winding one acts as the excitation winding and delivers the magnetic field strength.…”
