This work presents a methodology for LCL filter design applied to grid connected converters. It is based on the combined analysis of the parametric and physic design. Different combinations of L-C-L that meet normative restrictions are determined, in order to find the values that result in the smallest total volume, highest capacitor lifetime, or a compromise among both. For this, component losses are modeled, as well as practical aspects and particularities of each technology employed in the filter. Electrical and thermal experimental results validate the proposed methodology.
