Improved chromatographic performances of glycidyl methacrylate anion‐exchange monolith for fast nano‐ion exchange chromatography

Abstract: An efficient and reproducible photopolymerized poly(glycidyl methacrylate-co-ethylene dimethacrylate) was synthesized in Teflon-coated fused-silica capillaries (100 μm id) and functionalized by reaction of triethylamine with reactive epoxy groups. We report here the successful transfer of a standard polymerization mixture optimized for the thermally initiated synthesis of glycidyl-based monolith to photo-induced polymerization. The monolith obtained after optimization of the photo-initiation conditions was cha… Show more

“…With the ring‐opening reaction of glycidyl methacrylate (GMA), various amine compounds such as phenylalanine, cystamine and epinephrine have been chemically decorated on GMA‐based monoliths and applied to chromatographic separation with mixed‐mode mechanisms including RP and weak anion–exchange (WAX) interactions . Based on the special aliphatic amine like triethylamine, cationic ammonium groups were formed via the nucleophilic reaction of tertiary amine with GMA, and the resultant positively charged monoliths were further used for strong anion–exchange (SAX) separations . Ring‐opening reactions of GMA with amine compounds have been studied and used extensively for the fabrication of MMCs.…”

“…Therefore, post‐modification has emerged as a versatile tool to easily tune the surface properties of monoliths . Reactive polymethacrylate monoliths were used as starting material and post‐functionalized with different chromatographic ligands to obtain stationary phases for different capillary electrochromatography (CEC) applications, affinity chromatography chiral separation, and various liquid chromatographic applications …”
