Fermented products, including Ogi-baba and Pito, provide several health benefits, particularly when probiotics are used in the fermentation process. Probiotic microorganisms exert strain-specific health-promoting activities on humans and animals. The objective of this study was to investigate the probiotic potentials of Lactic-acid bacteria (LAB) isolates from indigenous fermented sorghum products (Ogi-baba and Pito). The LAB isolates were screened for potential probiotic properties by antagonistic activity against eight enteropathogenic clinical bacteria isolates (Escherichia coli, Klebsiella sp., Helicobacter pylori, Bacillus sp., Staphylococcus sp., Salmonella sp., Pseudomonas sp. and Listeria monocytogenes) as indicator organisms using the agar well diffusion technique. The organisms were also screened for acidity, bile tolerance, antibiotic susceptibility, production of lactic acid, diacetyl and hydrogen peroxide. β-galactosidase assay was also done. Genomic DNA was extracted from the two selected LAB isolates; the 16S rRNA were amplified and sequenced. The sequence data were subjected to Basic Local Alignment Search Tool (BLAST) and molecular phylogenetic analyses to identify the isolates. The isolates were identified as strains of Lactobacillus plantarum and Pediococcus pentosaceus. The sequence data for these two isolates were submitted to the Genbank with accession numbers KP883298 and KP883297 respectively. The P. pentosaceus strain (PB2) strain exhibited β-galactosidase activity as well as L. plantrum strain (OB6). The study revealed exceptional probiotic potentials of two LAB namely Lactobacillus plantarum strain (OB6) and Pediococcus pentosaceus strain (PB2) isolated from fermented sorghum products, Ogi-baba and Pito respectively. Hence, the two LAB strains may be potentially used as probiotic to prevent some enteropathogen-induced gastrointestinal disorders; reduce the incidence of respiratory tract infections and for the management of lactose in intolerance.

Gastric emptying is a complicated process, thus the in vivo performance of drug delivery systems is unknown. Many physiological obstacles including; short gastric residency time (GRT) and variable gastric emptying time (GET), have reduced the efficacy of oral dosage forms. To combat this fickleness, attempts have been undertaken to increase the dosage form's retention time, resulting in the creation of Gastroretentive Drug Delivery Systems (GRDDS). The GRDDS can stay in the stomach for an extended period of time, increasing the gastric residence duration of medications and improving their bioavailability. These are commonly employed in the treatment of gastrointestinal illnesses and disorders for site-specific drug administration. Also, they enhance the absorption of drugs that are only soluble in the stomach. In this review, we will discuss numerous and different techniques for GRDDS such as floating systems, non-floating systems and their sub-types. A list of recent patents on GRDDS is also included, along with a full description of the assessment parameters. .

Due to its ability to combine the advantages of several herbal extracts with emulsion-based delivery technologies, polyherbal emulgel compositions have attracted a lot of attention in the cosmetics sector. The creation and assessment of polyherbal emulgels for skincare applications are explored in this work. The effective blending of diverse herbal extracts to combat certain skin issues including acne, inflammation, and ageing is one of the key breakthroughs. The regulated and sustained release of active ingredients by the emulgels suggested possible long-lasting benefits and enhanced skin penetration. The sensory assessment of polyherbal emulgels indicated excellent consumer approval, making them potential candidates for commercialization. The study also emphasised the significance of standardization and quality control to guarantee dependable and consistent product performance. The research advances herbal emulgel compositions and their potential to provide individualized and successful skincare treatments.
