“…However, in the previous survey, a high prevalence of sensitization to DP as well as a strong association of this allergen with asthma and rhinitis was found, emphasizing the role of mites as triggers of allergic diseases (5). Several studies have addressed the capacity of BT to cause allergic diseases (10,11). As expected, most of these investigations have been carried out in regions with tropical or subtropical climates, although the presence of sensitization to BT in patients with asthma and/or rhinitis has also been detected in colder climates (12,13).…”

“…Physical examination of the skin was performed using the criteria for diagnosis of atopic dermatitis established by Hannifin and Rajka and assessment of severity depending on the SCORAD index . Skin prick tests (SPT) were carried using allergenic extracts of cow's milk, hen's egg, Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus and Dermatophagoides farinae prepared as described previously and at a concentration of 0.3 mg/ml in a saline solution with 50% glycerol and 0.4% phenol. Control tests were performed with the diluent alone and with 1% w/v histamine dihydrochloride.…”
