“…Regarding this research aspect, we would like to state that the aqueous humor samples were obtained, manipulated, transported, and processed by following strict protocols in order to eliminate the possibility of interferences. Formerly, we established that oxidative stress was present in the aqueous humor of the patients with POAG, and the levels were significantly higher in this group compared with the cataract patients (30). Our results are in agreement with the scientific literature regarding this topic (31)(32)(33).…”

“…Most of the NO in the body is in the form of nitrite and nitrate. Therefore, this method indirectly quantifies nitric oxide based on the enzymatic conversion of nitrate to nitrite by nitrate reductase, followed by a by colorimetric detection of nitrite as an azo dye product of the Griess reaction [ 39 ].…”

“…Products of oxidative stress are suggested as potential biomarkers. Nitric oxide (NO) is a free radical and shows higher serum [128] and aqueous humor concentration in patients with primary open angle glaucoma (POAG) [126,127]. Protein carbonyls (PC) content is the most general indicator and by far the most used marker of protein oxidation.…”
