Implementation of the SMS Gateway in the Flood Early Warning Information System for Village Warning and Community Information

Abstract: Flooding is a national disaster that often occurs in Indonesia. Flood disasters require long-term and short-term action. In the short-term system, the government currently emphasizes state and private institutions to jointly reduce flood victims by developing a flood disaster early warning system. Therefore, this study discusses the making of flood early warning information systems by utilizing GSM communication systems as a means of communication between clients and servers. The GSM communication service used… Show more

“…The measuring of river water levels can be classified into three categories based on the method employed: measured water level (by IoT) [29,37,38,[52][53][54][55], observed water level (by the public) [36,38,56], and forecasted water level through simulations [32,[57][58][59][60]. Many modern early warning systems have employed IoT devices such as automated river gauges to continuously measure river water levels in real-time with greater accuracy [29,37,38,[52][53][54][55]. On the other hand, active and passive social media systems and crowdsourcing platforms are also being used to report water levels observed by the community as texts and photographs with time and location data [36,38,56].…”

“…Arduino minimum system board is a drinking system board that is easy to use in making prototypes of embedded system applications such as smart home applications, fire detectors and other automation products [13]. While the Arduino application in a flood disaster is the use of a flood detection system that is integrated with an ultrasonic sensor as a water level sensor and Arduino as a data processor [14].…”

“…This means that for the system to work effectively, active participation of those involved or at risk is expected [11], [14]. Moreover, studies focus on the devices and technologies of EWS such as SMS and alarms [15], [16] compared to participant involvement. Experts and researchers suggest incorporating EWS with Organizational Resilience [17], [18] Studies showed that Organizational Resilience could minimize the negative impacts of technical issues and limitations of the EWS technologies [17].…”
