Implementation of Building Information Modeling for Construction Clash Detection Process in the Design Stage: A Case Study of Malaysian Police Headquarter Building

Abstract: The Malaysian government motivates constructor companies to use Building Information Modeling (BIM) on their projects because it can dominate problems such as design error, delay, and construction-overrun costs. This research also assesses the effect of BIM in the design phase of the construction process and how this technology can detect all existing clash in construction plans during the design phase. The research was carried out through a case study that contains an architectural, structural, and Mechanical… Show more

“…This helps the user prevent rework and construction errors in the preconstruction phase of the project. The clash detective tool in Navisworks Manage detects two categories of clashes in a 3D BIM model (Kermanshahi et al , 2020): Hard clash: When two objects in a design directly collide, it is defined as a hard clash. Here clash between the objects is inevitable if not taken care of beforehand and thus causes error and delay during construction. Soft clash: When two objects tend to collide but are separated by a very minute distance, such cases are regarded as soft clashes.…”
