Summary Penetration of distributed generations in distribution networks (active distribution networks) has resulted in some problems such as change in short circuit level and direction of fault current flow. Such conditions may cause some relays to malfunction. In this paper, a method for coordinating directional overcurrent relays in active distribution networks taking uncertainties into consideration is proposed. These uncertainties include changes in operation conditions, changes in fault conditions, error in measuring equipment, and outage of distributed generations. Therefore, an optimization frame with new variables is presented, which can be used to create different characteristic curves. Taking uncertainties into account causes the number of constraints to increase and the problem of coordination of directional overcurrent relays to become more complicated. Thus, a two‐step approach is used to solve this problem. In the first step, an algorithm is used to form the constraints of the problem, then, in the second step, a hybrid optimization algorithm consisting of the cuckoo search algorithm and linear programming is proposed. The simulation results for active radial and meshed distribution networks are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

Sistem proteksi pada jaringan tegangan menengah 20 kV feeder A - L1 PS 2 terminal 1 bandara Soekarno-Hatta awalnya menggunakan dua relay diferensial yang tersambung dengan pilot wire pada tiap salurannya. Namun, ada rencana untuk pergantian panel pada busbar utama terminal 1 dimana panel tersebut sudah terdapat relay arus lebih (OCR) sehingga relay diferensial di awal saluran tergantikan oleh relay OCR dan relay diferensial di akhir saluran tidak bisa berpasangan dengan relay OCR pada dua saluran tersebut. Untuk mengatasi hal ini, relay diferensial yang satunya diganti dengan relay arus lebih berarah (DOCR). Pada penelitian ini, dilakukan perencanaan setting relay OCR dan DOCR. Perencanaan tersebut dilakukan dengan perhitungan secara manual, kemudian hasil perhitungan tersebut disimulasikan pada ETAP 12.6.0 untuk memeriksa setting yang benar. Apabila belum benar, maka akan dilakukan setting ulang. Setting relay OCR dan DOCR yang akan digunakan pada jaringan tegangan menengah 20 kV feeder A – L1 PS 2, terminal 1 bandara Soekarno-Hatta, didapat pickup = 0,4 dan Time Multiple Setting (TMS) = 0,15 untuk Relay1 (OCR), pickup = 0,4 dan TMS = 0,05 untuk Relay2 (DOCR), pickup = 0,4 dan TMS = 0,15 untuk Relay3 (OCR), serta pickup = 0,4 dan TMS = 0,05 untuk Relay4 (DOCR).

Development of Reclosing Method in a Distribution System with Distributed Generation and Battery Energy Storage System

The connection of distributed generation (DG) and a battery energy storage system (BESS) in distribution systems has recently been increasing. However, little research has been conducted on the reclosing of the distribution system when both the DG and BESS are connected. Therefore, this paper proposes a new reclosing method for a distribution system with a DG and BESS. The proposed method also has a circuit breaker (CB) installed in the distribution line. A CB close to the DG and BESS is first reclosed after a fixed dead time and, then, the fault clearance is detected using the current flowing to the fault point. Once the fault is cleared, the reclosing of the CB at the source side is attempted after completing a synchronism check. The proposed method is modeled using an electromagnetic transient program. We perform various simulations according to the capacities of the DG and the fault clearance time, and analyze the simulation results. The simulation results show that steady-state power is supplied to the load from the DG and BESS before reclosing to prevent outage, and that the reclosing is successfully performed.
