Implementation of a Resonant Converter with Topology Morphing to Achieve Bidirectional Power Flow

Abstract: A DC converter with the benefits of reverse power capability, less switching loss and wide voltage operation is presented and implemented for wide input voltage applications such as fuel cell energy, photovoltaic (PV) system and DC wind power. Two full bridge resonant circuits are used in the presented converter to achieve bidirectional power flow capability and reduce switching losses on active devices. To overcome the wide input DC voltage variation problem for fuel cell energy and PV solar panel, the topolo… Show more

“…In transducing equipment, pulsed inverters with independent excitation of oscillations [4][5][6][7] have become widespread, in which a separate independent generator serves as the source of the inverter control signal. In study [4], to increase the power of resonant inverters, a dual power circuit with a packet control mode is used, which preserves optimal switching conditions.…”

“…Options for overcoming the problems of compensation of complex perturbations in a resonant converter system can be the combination of methods for regulating the power of converters. This approach is used in [7], where frequency regulation combined with switching the topology of the inverter circuit is used to adjust the power of the bidirectional converter system. However, the complication of the power circuit of the inverter and the control system is not always acceptable for reasons of reliability under conditions of exposure to powerful electromagnetic interference.…”
