“…20 This recent decrease is likely reflective of improved perioperative care pathways including early ambulation, and inhospital and post-discharge VTE prophylaxis over the past decade. 21 The 40-year time period examined in the current study likely prevented us from discerning this more recent trend and likely explains these contrasting data. BMI was also found to be significantly associated with VTE in RC patients, which is consistent with previous studies.…”

“…The multifactorial approach includes, among other interventions, consistent use of prolonged PTP, mechanical thromboprophylaxis, and early ambulation, which is more effective in reducing VTE incidence than PTP alone (0.9% vs 6.2%). 24,25 Several limitations of this study have to be addressed. First, due to the structure of the database, we were not able to obtain cancer-specific variables, such as cancer stage for patients with bladder cancer or other malignancies, and mechanical thromboprophylaxis, rendering us unable to adjust for those potential confounders.…”

“…In other countries, the average LOS of patients with ERAS was shorter than in China, and was 5-6 d[ 23 , 24 ]. However, about 50%-80% of the discharged patients in developed countries are taken out of hospital care institutions[ 25 ], which might help explain this differences between countries. Therefore, the readmission rate of discharged patients after surgery and the factors influencing readmission LOS warrant further investigation.…”
