Implementation of a low cost data acquisition board for photovoltaic arrays analysis and diagnostic

Abstract: Abstract-Testing PV modules are one of the important procedures to ensure the conformity with the standards and quality of this equipment's. To implement some of the PV modules tests a data acquisition system is required. This paper presents the design and implementation of a data acquisition system for photovoltaic systems. The developed system is characterized by a low cost board based on a microcontroller. The description of the hardware as well an application to test its performance is presented. The devel… Show more

“…Some of the most common models are the voltage-temperature simulation algorithms [9], end-to-end differentiable simulator [10], seven-parameter model [11], one-diode equivalent circuit model [12,13], dual-diode model [14], or four-diode model [15]. Other simulation tools are dedicated to the research of PV panels regarding operational data for the reliability or fault-tolerant analysis and improvement [16]. Some authors propose solutions using a constant DC power supply and adjustable loads to achieve different operational conditions [17].…”

“…Then the temporary stored data into the data logger is then send to supervision, storage and web service layer [6]. In [9] microchip PIC18F4550 microcontroller is used to develop the proposed system. The system proposes to allow the users to check the photovoltaic panel temperature and radiation which satisfies the performance of the photovoltaic panel based on the datasheet.…”

“…The minimum experimental set up to measure the I-V curves of solar cells requires at least of a voltage source, a voltmeter and an ammeter. Some low cost systems have been proposed to solve this problem [2][3][4][5][6][7]. These are based on microcontrollers and DAQ´s.…”

“…Some researches solve this problem with an external AC power supply with DC offset adjustment [3]. Others employ a pulse width modulated signal and one external circuit acting as a digital to analog converter [4]. Unfortunately, these strategies make the system less portable and more complex.…”
