Implementation and validation of Multimedia Broadcast Multicast Service for LTE/LTE-advanced in OpenAirInterface platform

Abstract: Evolved Multimedia Broadcast Multicast Service (eMBMS) is a point-to-multipoint content delivery solution designed for LTE/LTE-A. It distributes efficiently the broadcast and multicast service to a massive number of mobile devices located in a given geographical area. eMBMS can be used to boost the network's capability for providing high-quality multimedia service in high user-density area such a stadium during an entertainment or sport event. The aim of this paper is to validate and evaluate the performance o… Show more

“…Since no tight guarantees could be provided, the safety standards limited the use of this framework in research. Still, in 2013, Nguyen et al (2013 implemented a broadcast/multicast communication system based again on a cokernel system, including RTAI and PREEMPT_RT Linux. Unfortunately, the authors did not provide further details on the configuration and integration of this mixed system.…”

“…Nguyen et al in [16] evaluated and validated the performance of eMBMS following the Third Generation Partnership Program (3GPP) standard (release 10) implemented in the context of the OpenAirInterface SDR platforms. The obtained results showed that eMBMS performance in the OpenAirInterface satisfies the requirement of 3GPP standard in terms of Block Error Rate (BLER).…”

“…Pushed content via user equipment caching as well as machine-to-machine services are distinctive enhancements. The evolution of the MBMS standard and its performance are presented in many scientific and technical papers [3,4,5,6]. Its efficiency in content delivery is addressed in [7].…”
