Impedance Synthesis Based Vibration Analysis of Geared Transmission System

Abstract: The severity of gear noise response depends on the sensitivity of geared rotor system dynamics to the transmission error. As gearbox design trending towards lighter weight and lower noise, the influence of housing compliance on system dynamic characteristics cannot be ignored. In this study, a gear-shaft-bearing-housing coupled impedance model is proposed to account for the effect of housing compliance on the vibration of geared transmission system. This proposed dynamic model offers convenient modeling, effic… Show more

“…L is the length and OD is the diameter of shaft segments, and subscripts 1 and 2 mean the input shaft and the output shaft, respectively. Ren [6] built a lumped parameter model for each segment. In order to achieve better accuracy, a continuous Timoshenko beam model [34] with 2 external nodes and 6 directions at each node is used here, as shown in Figure 2.…”

“…A gear dynamics simulation model, which uses a mortar-based mesh interface for hybrid FE/lumped-parameter models, was proposed and applied to analyse the dynamic behaviour of thin-rimmed geared systems in [16]. A combination of FE and lumped-parameter models was used by Ren et al [17] to study the dynamic behaviour of a coupled gear-shaft-bearing-housing assembly by using the impedance synthesis method.…”

“…Choy et al [24,25] examined the effect of the housing's vibration on the dynamic features of the parallel shaft gear transmission system via the modal synthesis method, but the gearbox was simplified dramatically. Ren et al [26] established the gear-shaft-bearing-box coupling dynamic model of the parallel shaft via the impedance synthesis method, taking the dynamical coupling between the transmission system and the housing into consideration, and investigated the influence factor of the natural frequency, meshing force, and bearing force. According to the literature retrieved, the modelling methods of the gear transmission system's…”
