Impedance Measurement of Traction Network and Electric Train for Stability Analysis in High-Speed Railways

Abstract: Instability and oscillation issues have frequently occurred in high-speed railways due to the mismatch of impedances versus frequency between the 4-quadrant converter (4QC)-based high-speed train and the traction network (hereinafter train-network). However, solely utilizing the mathematical deduction to quantify the impedances appears to be difficult owing to unknown detailed parameters of both traction network and electric train. This paper proposes a method to measure the equivalent impedances of traction n… Show more

“…Then, through the Nyquist criterion, whether the inverter-grid system is stable or not can be judged. In this article, the passivity impedance-based stability criterion [14] and the impedance analysis method are combined to analyze the undesired resonance or harmonic phenomenon, which is called resonance instability [15,16].…”

“…Therefore, it is necessary to provide more realistic values based on industrial applications based and specifications for the ac grid-converter system [76,77]. Moreover, accurate train-network impedance measurements [31,78] will facilitate the impedance identification process and further development of related standards.…”

“…The main superior aspect of the impedance-based methods lies in black-box modeling, i.e. measurements without the prior knowledge of detailed system parameters [31]. Moreover, many methods, in addressing the linearization of power electronic converters are also classified into two categories based on the operation points or trajectories.…”

“…The complexity of the microgrid increases when more sources and loads are replaced by the power electronics interfaces. Microgrids based solely on power electronic converters can be already found on ships, airplanes and tractions systems [1][2][3]. To reach power system with 100 percent renewable energy generation, the power system should rely on grid-forming converters to regulate AC voltage and frequency [4].…”
