“…A lot of work has been done globally on the use of SNLs in hospital-based care (Muller-Stuab, Needham, Odenbreit, Harrison (1995), there are conflicting views about the utility of nursing diagnosis in the community setting due to large client populations available in such settings. The use of SNLs in the primary healthcare settings has been at its low ebb in many parts of the world, including Nigeria (Ogunfowokan, Oluwatosin, Olajubu, Alao, & Faremi, 2013), and many initiatives have been developed to facilitate their use in the context of primary health care (PHC) (Mañá González & Mesas Sáez, 2002;Trigueros Aguado, San Martín Aparicio, Ballesteros Álvaro, & López Merino, 2003). However, a recent report by Rivas, García, Arenas, Lagos, and López (2012) showed that nurses in the PHC settings have effectively incorporated the nursing process as a work methodology in their caregiving practices, significantly improving their nursing care (Rivas et al, 2012).…”

“…Despite the reported benefits of using the nursing process (i.e., optimizing resource management and improving the quality of care) (Martínez Marcos et al., 1996), several factors, such as training or time shortages, low motivation, and the hegemonic biomedical model, can hinder implementing the methodology (Lee, 2005; Paganin, Moraes, Pokorski, & Rabelo, 2008). Therefore, many initiatives have been developed to facilitate the use of nursing process in the context of PHC (Izquierdo Carrasco et al., 2002; Mañá González & Mesas Sáez, 2002; Trigueros Aguado, San Martín Aparicio, Ballesteros Álvaro, & López Merino, 2003). Thus, the primary objective of this paper is to examine the implementation and development of the nursing process in PHC for Sanitary Area 11 in Madrid, Spain, and to evaluate the outcomes accomplished during the past 9 years.…”
