Perkembangan investigasi gen pengkode leptin (LEP) pada beberapa spesies golongan aves telah dilakukan secara mendalam selama kurun waktu 20 tahun. Ekspresi gen LEP pada genom beberapa spesies aves telah teridentifikasi diantaranya Falco peregrinus dan Falco cherrug, Pseudopodoces humilis, Taeniopygia guttata, Columba livia, Haliaeetus leucocephalus, Picoides pubescens, dan Melopsittacus undulatus. Namun identifikasi genetika molekuler gen LEP pada ayam (G. gallus gallus) masih diperdebatkan. Perkembangan industri peternakan ayam lokal asli Indonesia tergolong pesat, namun masih memiliki beberapa keterbatasan salah satunya produktivitas ternak ayam lokal asli Indonesia. Pemenuhan kebutuhan pangan nasional salah satunya berasal dari sektor peternakan unggas khususnya ayam lokal asli Indonesia dengan kontribusi sebesar 23% per tahun. Peningkatan produktivitas peternakan ayam lokal asli Indonesia dapat dicapai dengan persilangan selektif. Persilangan selektif berupaya dalam meningkatkan mutu genetik ternak ayam lokal asli Indonesia dengan memberdayakan plasma nutfah ayam lokal asli Indonesia. Persilangan selektif memungkinkan dihasilkannya hibrida ayam pedaging dan petelur dengan karakteristik unggul sesuai dengan rancangan pola persilangan yang ditetapkan. Dalam proses persilangan selektif dibutuhkan penerapan genetika Mendelian dan molekuler sebagai panduan dan evaluasi arah seleksi guna meningkatkan efektivitas persilangan. Beberapa gen yang berpengaruh signifikan terhadap produktivitas ayam telah berhasil diidentifikasi, namun beberapa kandidat gen penting lainnya seperti gen LEP masih membutuhkan riset yang mendalam. Ulasan ini mengintegrasikan riset gen LEP pada ayam dari awal penemuan hingga terobosan terkini.

Competitiveness of broiler in Tondano Utara district, regency of minahasa in north Sulawesi province, Indonesia

The research aims to analyze competitiveness of broiler in District of Tondano Utara, Regency of Minahasa. Sampling technique utilized was saturated sampling (census method) by taking all existing samples, containing of 68 samples of broiler in the region of District of Tondano Utara. Further, data analysis employed Policy Analysis Matrix (PAM). The analysis finding shows that PCR (Private Cost Ratio) valuewas less than(<) 1, which was 0.65. This means that business system of broiler cultivated by breeders had competitive advantage. Breeder was able to compete with broiler business in other regions, instead of enabling to finance domestic factor in private price. Husbandry sector had competitive advantage whereas DRCR (Domestic Resources Cost Ratio) value was less than (<) 1, representing that advantage obtained by breeder was greater than its social cost of non-tradable input. In broiler’s case showed in District of Tondano Utara, DRCR value was less than (<) 1, which was 0.96, depicting that husbandry sector had comparative competitiveness since it could finance its domestic factor related to social cost and it was economically efficient. Therefore it is recommended to encourage market expansion to the export market through the development of broiler chicken meat processing industry in North Sulawesi.

Indonesia is currently in the top 10 of the world's poultry meat and egg producers. Poultry house in Indonesia is the main key in fulfilling the need for consumption of animal protein. Broiler and Layer types are the type of chicken that dominates the poultry farm sector in Indonesia, this is a serious threat to food sovereignty in Indonesia because Indonesia has not been able to provide Broiler and Layer grand parent stock as breed on several neighboring countries by doing import grand parent stock (GPS). So the objective of this research is to obtain the hybrid chickens with high egg and meat productivity yet still had the superiority of meat taste and strong body resistance like local chicken or native chicken. This Research conducted in Pusat Informasi Agroteknologi (PIAT) UGM di Kalitirto, Berbah, Sleman, D.I.Yogyakarta. In this study Back Crossess were conducted between F1 Kamper roosters and Layer hens. The growth rate of BC1 Kamper is lower than Layer and F1 Kamper and based on the statistical analyses, there are no differences of growth rate between BC1 Kamper and parental. Hybrid Chicken BC1 Kamper resulted from ♀ F1 Layer And ♂ F1 Kamper crosses has diverse phenotypic variations quantitative and qualitative data, the phenotype characters of BC1 Kamper such as ♂ F1 Kamper and the growth rate such as ♀ F1 Layer.
