Impact of Heavy Metals Pollution on Histopathological Alterations in Kidney and Liver of Nile Tilapia (Oreochromis Niloticus( Inhabiting El-Rahawy Drain

Abstract: his study was performed to evaluate agricultural and industrial wastes water with respect to the potentially some toxic metals on histopathological alterations in kidney and liver of Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) from El-Rahawy drain at different seasons. Samples of Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) were collected seasonally (12 fish / season) from each site. Fish total length and total weight were from 13.5 to 26.1 cm and from 50 to 315 g, respectively The present results indicated that, the heavy m… Show more

“…Heavy metal concentrations (Cd, Pb, Cu, Zn, Mn, and Fe) were determined in water samples (μg/L) and Tilapia muscle samples (μg/g dry weight) using atomic absorption spectrophotometer model (PerkinElmer 3110 USA) according to Refs. [ 11 , 12 ] method, in National Research Center, Cairo, Egypt. These metals are the most common toxic elements that become dangerous to human and animal health if exceeds the permissible limits.…”

“…The assessment of biological effects of pollutants allows for monitoring water pollution with fast responses (Gharred and Naija, 2015). Therefore, fish could be used as a "warning system" to indicate the presence of pollutants in natural aquatic (El-Hais et al, 2017). Biochemical alternations have been also proved sensitive biomarkers for the detection of interactions between pollutants and biological compounds (Gabr, et al, 2020;El-Hais et al, 2017).…”

Biochemical alternations have been also proved sensitive biomarkers for the detection of interactions between pollutants and biological compounds (Gabr, et al, 2020;El-Hais et al, 2017). This study, therefore, investigated the utilization of an integrated biomarker approach of histological, nanomechanical, biochemical, and oxidative stress biomarkers in Oreochromis niloticus (Linnaeus, 1758) as a biological indicator of the health status of the freshwater ecosystem.…”
