Since delivery robots share sidewalks with pedestrians, it may be beneficial to choose paths for them that avoid zones with high pedestrian density. In this paper, we investigate a robot-based last-mile delivery problem considering path flexibility given the presence of zones with varying pedestrian level of service (LOS). Pedestrian LOS is a measure of pedestrian flow density. We model this new problem with stochastic travel times and soft customer time windows. The model includes an objective that reflects customer service quality based on early and late arrivals. The heuristic solution approach uses the minimum travel time paths from different LOS zones (path flexibility). We demonstrate that the presence of pedestrian zones leads to alternative path choices in 30% of all cases. In addition, we find that extended time windows may help increase service quality in zones with high pedestrian density by up to 40%.

V souvislosti s kontinuálním nárůstem maloobchodních prodejů přes internet a s tím spojených aktivit zásilkových služeb přichází potřeba inovovat současná řešení v oblasti správy a řízení vozového parku. Uvedené podporuje také rozvoj konceptu Logistiky 4.0, který odkazuje na masivní digitální transformaci a zavádění kyber-fyzických systémů postavených na umělé inteligenci. Díky tomu mohou kupříkladu zásilkové firmy snížit své provozní náklady, zachovat si konkurenceschopnost a velikost marže. Cílem tohoto článku je představit základní principy, z kterých vychází nově navržená funkcionalita optimalizace trasy a dojezdových časů. Tato funkcionalita je zamýšlena jako součást inteligentních dopravních systémů pro podporu provozování zásilkových a obslužných služeb. Přínos předkládaného článku míří především do oblasti praxe. Článek poskytuje profesionálům vhled do této problematiky. Uvedeny jsou také rámcové propočty finanční úspory dosažené zavedením takového řešení v praxi.

Following the emergency caused by the Covid‐19 pandemic, there is the need, among other measures, to modify urban mobility plans in order to reduce the use of collective public transport, reducing the crowding of people while also preventing traffic congestion through discouraging the use of private vehicles. From this perspective, retail companies operating within cities must also reorganize themselves, considering both the unpredictable requirements of environmental sustainability and the new mobility needs calling for the promotion of bicycles and electric scooters. In this context, we deal with the need to determine minimum cost routes in urban areas for delivering orders placed through e‐channels. More precisely, we face a variant of the green vehicle routing problem of heterogeneous fleets, in which the objective function includes environmental impact cost components that differ by vehicle type. Moreover, as a novel issue, attention must be paid to avoid crossing and passing close to bicycle lanes; therefore, penalties are associated with the transit of vehicles near bicycle lanes. To address this problem, we propose a mixed integer linear programming model and a matheuristic associated with it. The proposed approach is then used to analyze different scenarios derived from the transportation network of the city of Milan, Italy. Milan is one of the smartest cities in Europe from the mobility point of view but also one of the most affected by the Covid‐19 pandemic, and the municipality is making a big investment to promote the use of bicycles.
