Impact of Coarse Aggregate on Compressive Strength of Concrete

Abstract: Over one-third of the volume of concrete is occupied by coarse aggregate and any changes in coarse aggregate type can affect its strength and fracture properties. The paper examined the impact of coarse aggregates on compressive strength of concrete. Slump and compaction factor tests were conducted on the mixture of quartzite and crushed granite course aggregates, and quarry dust (fine aggregate). Nominal mix (1:2:3) was adopted and mix compositions were calculated by absolute weight method. Twelve (12) cubes … Show more

“…Rounded aggregates have a smoother surface area, which makes them less effective at interlocking. When it comes to high-strength and high-performance concrete, the shapes, textures, and sizes of the aggregates become increasingly significant characteristics for the concrete's strength, durability, and low water permeability [24].…”

“…In addition, it is possible that carrying out experiments in a laboratory is the most appropriate course of action to take in order to investigate the impact that aggregate gradation has on concrete. As a result, here a number of trial concrete mixes with various aggregate gradations were created in order to acquire a relatively superior aggregate gradation method in accordance with the prerequisites of concrete qualities, primarily compressive strength and workability [24].…”

“…However, the aggregate type was the most significant factor affecting the strength of concrete produced. Authors [15] examined the impact of coarse aggregates type on the compressive strength of concrete. According to their findings, concrete made from quartzite aggregate had the highest compressive strength.…”

“…В ряде статей рассматривается возможность замены их известняком и песчаником, однако марочная прочность полученных бетонов не превышает показатели бетонов на гранитном щебне [4,5]. Положительное влияние на механические показатели бетонов оказывает замена традиционного заполнителя кварцитом, диабазом, базальтом [6][7][8]. Повышенная прочность наблюдается у бетонов с добавкой высокомагнезиальных вскрышных пород [9,10].…”
