PurposeThe study aims to examine the role of consumer psychological attitude, subjective norm, perceived behavior control and pro-environmental self-identity on green food purchase intention. Also, it examines the effect of ecological conscious consumers' behavior (ECCB) on green intention and behavior.Design/methodology/approachThe study has focused on the upper-middle-class segment of Karachi. The authors have used area sampling for collecting the data. Six recruited enumerators distributed 450 questionnaires in five areas of Karachi and received 423 filled-in questionnaires. The study has used the Smart PLS version for data analysis.FindingsThe study found that biospheric egoistic and hedonic values affect attitudes toward green products, and altruistic values have no effect on attitude. Also, the authors did not find any association between attitude and green purchase intention, but found that attitude stimulates ECCB. Subjective norms and perceived behavior control strongly affect green purchase intention and ECCB. The results also suggest that pro-environment self-identity and ECCB are significant predictors of green purchase intention. The authors also found that green purchase intention stimulates green food behavior.Originality/valueThe authors have taken a holistic approach by investigating 13relationships. The authors also examined the association between hedonic values and green purchase intentions, which in the past studies have contradictory results.

Evaluation of risk adjusted performance of mutual funds in an emerging market

The objective of this study is to find the efficiency of an emerging-market (Pakistan) mutual funds, with reference to different measures of risks that contradict each other. We have measured risk-adjusted performance of openended equity funds of mutual funds. The reason for selecting equity funds is that it is consistent with the proxy benchmark as 100-index. As 100-index is also tracked by equities and equity funds that also consist of equity investment, it will be more appropriate to select equity funds. So, this study is limited to equity funds traded in Pakistan. The novelty of this study is its introduction of the Martin or Ulcer ratio, which is rarely used in Pakistani literature. This study will also limit the period under consideration from 2011 to 2019 to exclude the years 2008 to 2011 due to the crisis faced by the financial market in 2008 after which it took about two to three years to get the market back to its normal course. The statistics and probability values did not provide sufficient evidence to reject the hypothesis of market efficiency. The values support the efficient market hypothesis that even experienced and qualified funds manager, having sound market insights, cannot earn returns above the market, that is, the average returns of market and the average returns of each fund are equal. On the other hand, the risk adjusted returns including Sharpe, Treynor, Jensen's and Ulcer measures, are all on average negative. There may be qualitative factors affecting the returns to be equal or less than the risk free and market returns. Further research can explore the qualitative factors, for example, managers' qualification, funds goodwill, political instability and macroeconomic factors affecting the returns of funds. With the continuous progress of urbanization, the discharge of municipal solid waste has profoundly affected human production/living and social ecological health, and waste disposal has become one of the key issues all over the world. In the context of intelligent technology, this paper innovates the way of waste disposal according to the development direction of a smart city and the requirement of sustainable development strategy. An intelligent urban waste removal system is developed using a ROS (Route Operation System) robot operating system and RRT (Rapid Exploration of Random Trees) path planning algorithm. With a background of data management, the entire process of intelligent automatic waste removal is triggered by automatic communication from individual waste bins to a waste collection vehicle (WCV) where the bin needs to be emptied, and the automatic collection and transportation by the WCV in response. In combination with the IoT (Internet of Things), the system provides scientific data support for the intelligent layout of communities and even urban waste bins to greatly enhance the development of intelligence communities and smart cities.
