Impact of Climate Change on Sea Surface Temperature and Chlorophyll-a Concentration in South Sukabumi Waters

Abstract: Indonesia territorial waters are very vulnerable to the impacts of climate change. Research about the variations of sea surface temperature and chlorophyll-a concentration in the southern waters of Java has been undertaken by several researchers. However, the research is still in the scope of regional scale south of Java. This research was conducted to determine the impact of climate change on sea surface temperature and chlorophyll-a concentration in Sukabumi waters. The data used consisted of IOD index anoma… Show more

“…When an El Niño event occurs, WPP 715 becomes the optimal location for catching skipjack tuna, with the peak fishing season occurring in October, spanning from September to November. Regional climate change in the Pacific Ocean has caused water conditions in WPP 715 to become unfavorable for skipjack tuna fishing [38], [39]. The findings of this research underscore the significance of data and information for navigational purposes in the fishing industry, particularly given the changing climate.…”

“…The analysis of fish distribution in Cenderawasih Bay, utilizing average values of environmental factors like temperature, salinity, and chlorophyll (Figure 5), revealed a concentration of fish at multiple specific points. The horizontal temperature distribution reveals a prevailing warmth, typically between 28.23 and 29.41 ℃ in these waters (Figure 5a) (Nugroho and Muzaki, 2021;Suhermat et al, 2021). This is evident from the clustering of numerous dots in regions displaying brighter colors, which indicate a higher abundance of fish at elevated temperatures (Figure 5a).…”
