Evaluating the economic impact of airports is crucial for understanding the benefits they bring to a region. However, when an area has more than one airport, it becomes essential to analyze each airport’s contribution to the local economy to make informed investment and policy decisions. Thus, studying economic models that can distinguish each airport’s impact on the region’s economy becomes essential. In this context, this paper aims to compare three different approaches to determine the economic contributions of airports in a given region and identify their social and economic benefits. The International Civil Aviation Organization recommends using input–output analysis in this context. The study considered three weight factors for the input–output basic model: circular buffer, displacement time, and Huff’s gravitational model. The analysis was performed using the three largest airports in São Paulo state, Brazil, due to their proximity and influence on the surrounding areas. The models were compared based on their efficiency and accuracy in reflecting the reality of the case study context. The study identified the most suitable model for establishing correlations between investments made in airport infrastructure and the generation of gross domestic product, employment, and added value. This study fills a gap in the existing literature by proposing improvements to the methods for evaluating airports’ economic and social benefits. In recent times, airport investors, both in the government and private sectors, have become increasingly demanding in their need for accurate analyses before making investments. Therefore, the results of this paper will provide valuable insights into the benefits of investing in airport infrastructure and help policymakers and investors make informed decisions.

The paper discusses the optimizing possibilities in terms of use of public transportation that is very necessary considering the difficulty of increasing the capacity of the road with widen road infrastructure in an effort to manage “supply”. Therefore, an alternative approach when managing “demand” for transportation system can be controlled. This is especially needed in settlements newly developed rapidly in Deli Serdang Regency, namely in the Galang Region. The region Galang area with a population of 613 working people with details of 189 civil servants and 424 private employees who the majority (94%) use private transportation. One aspect that is studied within this manuscript is the amount of transportation costs of travel to work using private transportation (motorcycle) and public transportation (angkot or mikrolet). Transportation selection modeling is done using the Bi-nomial Model Binary Logit. Based on the analysis of the results obtained, it can be concluded that, if the difference in transportation costs with private transport getting bigger, the opportunities to use this mode will increase. The balance between the costs and using private and public transport is maintained if the costs of private transport are 1.4 times greater than the cost public transportation.

The aim of this research was to provide the evidence of economic benefits resulted from development of APT Pranoto airport towards East Kalimantan which will strengthen the support of the development of the new airport from various stakeholders. This research applied input-output, analysis to estimate the economic impact i.e impact of expenditure on construction phase. Direct impact includes the increase in gross value added as well as income from tax payment and create new employment. Indirect impact includes increase in capital spending of the workers and more money circulated within the area of East Kalimantan. This study conclude that there are direct and indirect impacts from APT Pranoto airport during construction phase within the period of 5 years. The findings can be used to emphasize APT Pranoto Airport Project in gaining funding and acceptance from local economy.
