Immunothrombotic dysregulation in chagas disease and COVID-19: a comparative study of anticoagulation

Abstract: Chagas and COVID-19 are diseases caused by Trypanosoma cruzi and SARS-CoV-2, respectively. These diseases present very different etiological agents despite showing similarities such as susceptibility/risk factors, pathogen-associated molecular patterns (PAMPs), recognition of glycosaminoglycans, inflammation, vascular leakage hypercoagulability, microthrombosis, and endotheliopathy; all of which suggest, in part, treatments with similar principles. Here, both diseases are compared, focus… Show more

“…This, alongside the limited knowledge of COVID-Chagas coinfection, has posed great challenges to counteracting multiple pandemics at once. Prevention programs for CD have been impaired to such an extent that there may be a reversal in progress [ 10 ]. COVID-19 and CD share more in terms of biological processes and pathophysiology.…”

“…We read with interest the recent article of Mayoral et al [ 1 ] “Immunothrombotic dysregulation in chagas disease and COVID‑19: a comparative study of anticoagulation”. First of all, we would like to point out to the authors that the correct spelling is “Chagas” disease, not “chagas” disease.…”
