Immunostimulatory and antioxidant activities of the selenized polysaccharide from edible Grifola frondosa

Abstract: Grifola frondosa polysaccharide (GFP2) was extracted and purified by anion‐exchange chromatography. A selenized G. frondosa polysaccharide, SeGFP2, was modified in selenylation by nitric acid–sodium selenite (HNO3‐Na2SeO3) method. Structural features were investigated, and the lymphocyte proliferation and antioxidant activities were compared taking GFP2 as control. SeGFP2 with a molecular weight of 2.12 × 104 Da was composed of mannose, glucose, and galactose with a ratio of 3.5:11.8:1.0. A typical absorption … Show more

“…GFP-A is mainly composed of Glc with α-type glycosidic linkages, whereas WGFP-A-a, AGFP-A-b, and AGFP-A-c are mainly composed of β-Glc p . Glucan GFPA (∼5,570 kDa) was extracted from the fruiting bodies of G. frondosa ( Li et al, 2022 ) and has an α-1,4-D-Glc p backbone with β-1,4,6-D-Glc p and T-β-Glc p as side chains. The mycelium glucans found in this study have lower molecular weights (4.1 kDa to ∼19.9 kDa) and are composed of a β-1,6-D-Glc p backbone with branched side chains of β-1,3-D-Glc p and T-D-Glc p residues at O-3 of the Glc p residues.…”

“…7 Grifola frondosa is a type of large medicinal and edible fungi, rich in polyphenols, sterols, proteins, polysaccharides and other active substances, and has many effects such as hypoglycemia, antitumor, anti-virus, anti-oxidantion and so on. 8,9 Previous reports have confirmed that G. frondosa has different degrees of inhibition on HIV virus, influenza virus and herpes simplex virus type I. 10 Therefore, G. frondosa is an important resource for the development of nutritional and functional foods with antiviral activity.…”
