Immunolocalisation of oestrogen receptors alpha (ERα) and beta (ERβ) in porcine embryos and fetuses at different stages of gestation

Abstract: The sites of oestrogen action can be shown by the localisation of their receptors in the target tissues. The aim of the present study was to show the localisation of oestrogen receptors in porcine embryos and fetuses obtained on days 18, 22, 32, 40, 50, 60, 71 and 90 post coitum (p.c.). The visualisation of proteins was conducted in embryos and various fetal organs such as gonads, uterus, lung, kidney, intestine and adrenal gland. Both ERs were observed in the blastocysts on day 18 p.c. In the male, ERβ was… Show more

“…developmental days E15–E19), mouse foetal lung tissues did not express detectable levels of ERα, which is consistent with the absence of ERα expression observed in adult lung tissues. Similar results were also obtained in an immunohistochemistry study of porcine embryo and foetus lung tissues (Knapczyk et al., 2008).…”

“…24 The levels reported in studies using comparable levels of soy protein to our study, however, are sufficient to achieve significant interaction with the beta-type estrogen receptor, 24 which is expressed in the kidney throughout development. 25 The relationship of this pathway to renal injury is not clearly determined, but linkage to collagen synthesis that is an integral part for both glomerulosclerosis and interstitial nephritis has been described. 26 We could not, however, detect a difference in this specific parameter between HIS and LIS diets.…”
