Immunohistochemical profiles of IDH1, MGMT and P53: Practical significance for prognostication of patients with diffuse gliomas

Abstract: Genetic and epigenetic status, including mutations of isocitrate dehydrogenase (IDH) and TP53 and methylation of O(6) -methylguanine-DNA methyltransferase (MGMT), are associated with the development of various types of glioma and are useful for prognostication. Here, using routinely available histology sections from 312 patients with diffuse gliomas, we performed immunohistochemistry using antibodies specific for IDH1 mutation, MGMT methylation status, and aberrant p53 expression to evaluate the possible progn… Show more

“…19 Of the GBM tumors, 15.2% (24/158) were positive for PD-1+ TIL and TP53 mutation, and 1.8% (4/227) were positive for PD-L1 and TP53 mutation (Fig. 4C), indicating that this mutation does not frequently coassociate with immune checkpoint expression (P ¼ .79 for correlation with PD-1+ TIL and P ¼ 1 for PD-L1, respectively).…”

“…In gliomas, immunodetection of p53 upregulation is indicative of the presence of p53 abnormalities and poor prognosis. [33][34][35] So far, the association between p53 in diffuse astrocytoma and oligodendroglioma and seizure control has not been investigated. In preclinical studies on rats, normal p53 levels had an inhibitory effect on epilepsy.…”
