“…This study also demonstrated the necessity of using heterologous challenge to test the immunogenicity of attenuated stocks since, according to the literature (Pipano 1974;Gill et al 1981;Subramanian et al 1986) and to our results, good homologous protection seems to be a consistent feature of attenuated cell lines.…”

“…The two-long-term-passaged p100 CL2 and p200 CL3 provided good protection against homologous challenge as shown by the results illustrated in Tables 2 and 3. Other authors have also shown that attenuated cell lines afford optimal immunity to homologous challenge (Pipano 1977;Gill et al 1981;Subramanian et al 1986). The p100 CL2 provided a lower degree of protection against the GUTS 3 challenge than did the homologous p200 CL3, as indicated by the significantly longer high-fever duration and higher PCV reduction (t-test, P = 0.027 and P = 0.017).…”

“…4 * * * Significant at 5%, ** Significant at 1%. intake on zinc, manganese, calcium and magnesium has been reported by various authors, Chaudhury et al (1977), Fazaria and Carvelio (1982), Gill (1979), Gupta and Singh (1981). The present study thus indicates the scope for utilizing the aforesaid heterotic effect and the necessity for a suitable selection procedure to ensure the efficiency of elemental uptake.…”

“…In a study conducted in various districts of Punjab in 2000, the overall prevalence of Brucellosis was found to be 11.80% in cattle, 10.67% in buffaloes and 3.60% in goats. Analysis of data revealed rise in prevalence of Brucellosis in dairy animals during 1990-99 (Gill et al, 2000). Grewal and Kaur (2000) reported incidence of Brucellosis to be 7% in sheep and 5% in goats, respectively in Sangrur district of Punjab, India.…”
