Imaging of the temporal bone in children using low‐dose 320‐row area detector computed tomography

Abstract: Low-dose CT of the temporal bone using 320-row CT provides images of diagnostic quality for assessment of middle and inner ear anatomy, similar to that provided by the standard-dose protocol, in spite of increased image noise.

“…Based on the ALARA (as low as reasonably achievable) principle, multiple approaches to lower radiation exposure have been proposed, including reducing the tube voltage and to acquire isotropic volumes of an entire organ with a single rotation of the gantry; this is possible with a volumetric 320-row detector CT system. Low kVp and mAs imaging is another strategy to effectively reduce radiation dose that has recently become popular (4)(5)(6)(7). Scanning with a 320-row detector CT provides 16-cm z-axis coverage in a single 0.35-s rotation.…”

Wuest i sur.…”
