Image Denoising Using Hybrid Contourlet and Bandelet Transforms

Abstract: This paper proposed a new multiscale and multidirectional image representation method named CBlet transform. It combines the new contourlet transform with the second-generation bandeletzation procedure. Thereinto, the contourlet transform captures image discontinuous points and links them into linear structures, then the bandeletization procedure pursuits the linear structures adaptively and further removes their correlation. The CBlet transform obtains much sparser representation than the new contourlet trans… Show more

“…The Bandelet transform has been used in the improvement of the JPEG2000 standard [5], satellite image compression [6][7], and image denoising [8][9], among other applications. These works have been focused in software platforms and only one implementation for video scaling in television formats using FPGAs is found in the literature [10].…”

“…BT adapts its basis functions according to the geometric information of an image. To avoid the complicated resampling and warping operations present in the first generation BT [5], the second generation BT obtains its coefficients by reordering 2D WT (or CT) coefficients based on the optimal direction and again performing 1D WT on the reordered WT (or CT) coefficients [6,15]. However, because of the subsampling operations involved in 2D WT (or CT), the geometric information in the image is not adequately retained, which is disadvantageous for subsequent reordering operations and 1D WT.…”
