IMACS: the wide-field imaging spectrograph on Magellan-Baade

Abstract: Bigelow & Dressler 1 reported on the design and construction of IMACS -the Inamori-Magellan Areal Camera and Spectrograph. IMACS was installed on the Magellan-Baade 6.5-m telescope at the Carnegie Institution's Las Campanas Observatory in Chile in August, 2003, and was phased into regular operation in the remaining months of that year (Osip et al 2 ). IMACS is now the most-used instrument on the Baade telescope, accounting for 63% of the nights available for astronomy in the 2005 observing year.IMACS has two b… Show more

“…In addition to the PS1 photometry, we also obtained one epoch of r-band imaging for PS1-11bbq with Gemini GMOS (Hook et al 2004), one epoch of ri-band imaging for PS1-12brf with Magellan IMACS (Dressler et al 2006) and one (A color version of this figure is available in the online journal.) epoch of r-band imaging for PS1-13ess with Magellan IMACS.…”

“…One transit was observed in 2007 with IMACS on the Magellan Baade telescope (Dressler et al 2006). We used the f/ 4 imaging mode with a subraster on one of the eight instrument CCDs (chip 2), reading out 1200 × 1200 pixels centered around x = 1080 and y = 3015, in order to decrease the readout time to roughly 35 s frame −1 in FAST mode.…”

“…The f/4 provides higher resolution spectra, up toR 5000, over a smaller, ¢ 15 square field. The detector of each camera is composed of eight 2 K×4 K CCDs, forming an 8 K×8 K mosaic (Dressler et al 2006).…”
