IL‐1 RN 2/2 genotype and simultaneous carriage of genotypes IL‐1 RN 2/2 and IL‐1β‐511 T/T associated with oesophagitis in Helicobacter pylori‐negative patients

Abstract: The results indicate that the IL-1RN 2/2 genotype and the carriage of combined genotypes IL-1RN 2/2 + IL-1beta-511 T/T are associated with H. pylori-negative oesophagitis. This is the first report on the association between IL-1 gene polymorphism and oesophagitis.

“…In our study, we found that the combination, IL1B −31T and IL1RN 1.1, was associated with increased risk of NSCLC. Similar to gastric cancer, simultaneous carriage of IL1RN 2.2 and IL1B −511 T/T was found in strong association with oesophagitis in Helicobacter pylori-negative patients [35]. Rapid decline of lung function among smokers was found to be associated with carriage of the haplotype IL1B −511T/IL1RN*1 [25].…”

“…Among healthy persons, important inter-individual variations were seen in pro-inflammatory proteins especially in in-vitro production (9). Numerous reseraches have shown the impact of polymorphisms of IL-1β and IL-1RN on the development of GERD (16). As different patterns are observed among the patients from India (10), Japan (11), it is estimated that there Table 3.…”

“…Koivurova et al (23) reported that the simultaneous carriage of those two polymorphisms is significantly associated with esophagitis. Garcia-Gonzalez et al (24) confirmed that the same IL-1B and IL-1RN polymorphisms that are associated with high risk of distal gastric adenocarcinoma are associated with a reduced risk of duodenal ulcer.…”
