“…Using mentorship talks by Black medical students and Cardiologists (there is not currently a single Black Cardiac Surgeon in Canada) and by teaching them how to perform an anastomosis, high school students can begin to see themselves as future surgeons. Notably, in a study done by Lane et al (2022), a 3-h virtual mentorship program conducted by The Association of Women's Surgeons had the effect of making minority high school students perceive the field of surgery as more familiar, diverse, attainable, and interesting [22 ▪▪ ].
