IF‐EM: An interval‐parameter fuzzy linear programming model for environment‐oriented evacuation planning under uncertainty

Abstract: SUMMARYThe processes and factors involved in evacuation activities are associated with a variety of uncertainties, posing major challenges to evacuation planners. This study represents an attempt to employ inexact optimization techniques for addressing uncertainties in evacuation practices. In this study, an intervalparameter fuzzy evacuation management (IF-EM) model is developed for supporting environment-oriented evacuation management under uncertainty. Through IF-EM, uncertainties in the model's stipulation… Show more

“…Considering the quality of available data in this study case, such parameters were expressed as triangular fuzzy sets. Fuzzy α-cut levels of 0.2, 0.5 and 0.8 that represented the lower, middle and higher values of fuzzy membership grades, respectively, were considered for all the fuzzy parameters in this study [33][34][35]. Figure 2 shows the total amount of available water resources expressed as fuzzy sets.…”

“…In fact, such uncertainties are prevalent in real-world water management problems, and would exhibit a transferrable effect in problem characterization, solution process, and systems analysis (Clark and Dorsey 1982;Inuiguchi et al 1990;Sutardi et al 1991;Clark et al 2002;Chang 2005). Neglecting the impacts from a variety of interval uncertainties would lead to losses of valuable information and thus cause significant deviations in the optimal results (Tan et al 2010b). Thus, the objective of this study is to apply an inexact quadratic programming (IQP) approach to long-term planning of a multi-source multi-sector water supply system with the consideration of water demands by a variety of ecosystems.…”

“…Previously, a plenty of studies were conducted upon energy resources management considering the associated environmental and economic implications (Aki et al, 2006;Cai et al, 2009aCai et al, , 2010Catalina et al, 2011;Gupta et al, 2011;Kambo et al, 1991;Kanudia and Shukla, 1998;Ma and Nakamori, 2009;Oliveira and Antunes, 2011;Pelet et al, 2005;Sadeghi and Hosseini, 2006;Tan et al, 2009Tan et al, , 2010Tan et al, , 2011Wang et al, 2006). For instance, Kambo et al (1991) conducted a comprehensive analysis of energy activities and the resulting emissions through using a multi-objective sectoral end-use model.…”
