IEEE 1588-Based Synchronization System for a Displacement Sensor Network

Abstract: Distribution of precise time reference in an Ethernet network allows the implementation of distributed measurement systems, overcoming the limitations of a complex architecture. This paper deals with a displacement sensor network that is built over Ethernet and synchronized according to IEEE 1588. Measurement devices share the same time reference, enabling accurate calculation of cross-derived quantities (multidimensional speed and acceleration). In this paper, a description of the sensor architecture is given… Show more

“…Time synchronization was a great barrier that hindered the wireless technology to be applied in our project, once we need to get together many sensors' data, and there was no time stamp in the data, they were useless, we couldn't analysis the structure exactly [4] . Due to the crystal frequency deviation, each CC2530's timer is different.…”

“…Pre-synchronization Before we start the AD collection, we must complete the collection of the coordinator's time. So we made the coordinator's timer count, then coordinator send the command of pre-synchronization every 5 seconds [5] .The process of sending command would circulate 20 times. We put the value of timer's counter which recorded the time between adjacent commands in the command.…”

“…Whereas, these control decisions are premised on system clock synchronization. For instance, control command depends on synchronous monitoring data of each node in various networks [1][2][3]. Therefore, clock synchronization plays an important role in these systems [4][5].…”

“…Additionally, contemporary applications demand both large-scale, possibly heterogeneous networks and high accuracy. Implementations of distributed measurement and control [10] have to be evaluated (simulated) regarding their achievable performance [11] in order to show the feasibility of a networked control system as well as to optimise control algorithms. As analytical bounds may become too conservative, simulation-based behavioural investigations can come closer to the actual performance of a clock synchronization scheme.…”
