Identity and introject in dissociative disorders.

Abstract: The structural analysis of social behavior (SASB) shows promise for systematically examining identity issues in clinical populations. In this study, identity is assessed with the SASB in a sample of women with dissociative disorder (n = 25) and a nonpatient clinical contrast group (n = 25). The SASB Introject--a multivariate measure of identity--effectively differentiated the 2 samples. Despite greater self-directed hostility than the clinical contrast group, dissociative disorder patients showed lower levels … Show more

“…Of the 156 patients who consented to A-CT, 130 (83%) completed the 20-session protocol (2 became psychotic or homicidal and were withdrawn, and 24 dropped out), and 97 (62%) met criteria for treatment response (HRSD ≤ 9 and absence of DSM-IV major depressive disorder). 1 Experimental phase. The purpose of the experimental phase was to evaluate the efficacy of C-CT (Jarrett, 1989; Jarrett et al, 1998; Jarrett & Kraft, 1997).…”

“…Conversely, psychiatric patients with a wide variety of diagnoses, such as major depressive disorder (Benjamin, 1986(Benjamin, , 1994, bulimia nervosa (Wonderlich, Klein, & Council, 1996), dissociative disorders (Alpher, 1996), borderline personality disorder (Benjamin & Wonderlich, 1994), and alcoholism (Ichiyama, Zucker, Fitzgerald, & Bingham, 1996), often report low affiliation and so may be described as self-neglecting, blaming, or even attacking (e.g., suicidal). Self-directed autonomy may less clearly separate normal from abnormal functioning but instead partly differentiate diagnostic groups.…”
