“…Baculovirus phylogenies have usually been based on individual gene sequences. The polyhedrin/granulin (polh) gene, encoding the major matrix protein of the OBs, has been the most widely used (5,7,14,34,60), but other genes, such as DNA polymerase, egt, gp41, chitinase, cathepsin, and lef2, have also been utilized (7,8,10,12,29,30,34,42). In general, these studies agree that the lepidopteran NPVs and GVs constitute distinct, well-defined groups (7,14,23,24,60).…”

“…The HaSNPV has been extensively used for the control of H. armigera since the first isolation of this pathogen in Hubei province of China. The genome of this virus has been completely sequenced ) and several of its genes such as the egt (Chen et al, 1997), lef-2 (Chen et al, 1999), p6.9 ), Ha122 (Long et al, 2003) and Ha94 (Fang et al, 2003) were characterized. In this paper, we describe the molecular properties of the HaSNPV chitinase gene including temporal transcriptional regulation and immunological properties.…”

“…Phylogenetic analysis indicated that HearNPV belongs to the group II NPVs (12,29). Its DNA genome is 131 kb and contains 135 open reading frames (ORFs) that potentially encode proteins of 50 amino acids (aa) or larger (13).…”
