Identification, Quantification and Antioxidant Activity of Hydro-alcoholic Extract of Artemisia campestris from Algeria

Abstract: In this study, the hydro-alcoholic extract of AlgerianArtemisia campestris was investigated for its phenolic constituents using HPLC-DAD-ESI-MS/MS. Also, the in vitro antioxidant activity and total phenolic content were evaluated via ORAC and Folin Ciocalteu assays, respectively. HPLC-DAD-ESI-MS/MS analysis revealed that the main tentatively identified compounds are caffeoylquinic acid isomers, flavonoids and benzoic acid derivatives. Additionally, the hydroalcoholic extract exhibited promising antioxidant act… Show more

“…Some of these plant species have been explored for their biological activities as well as their chemical composition, while some others still need further exploration. [1][2][3] Artemisia campestris L., is an aromatic herb that belongs to the family Asteraceae. It is distributed in different regions of southern Algeria where it is locally called "dgouft".…”

“…The plant extracts have been shown to have strong antioxidant activity, which has been related to the presence of several phenolic compounds. 1 Juniperus phoenicea L., is an evergreen tree that grows in North African countries, including Algeria. The plant has been used in folk medicine to treat many health disorders such as hypoglycemia and diarrhea.…”

“…65, No. 2 (2022) occulting antioxidant compounds can attenuate the destructive effects of these species through their free radical scavenging activities [6][7][8][9][10][11][12]. These natural antioxidants like Phenolic antioxidants, Fat-soluble vitamin E (α-tocopherol) and water-soluble vitamin C (L-ascorbic acid) and plant extracts can inhibit the free radical formation [12].…”
