“…Despite of the promising prospects it needs to be considered that a comprehensive integration of Ddw1 in hybrid breeding programs might narrow the genetic base of rye varieties. In order to counterbalance any potential linkage drag effect, which might be driven by strong selection for a single haplotype variant controlling PH, further GA-sensitive dwarfing genes like Ddw2 (Melz, 1989), Ddw3 (Stojałowski et al, 2015), or Ddw4 (Kantarek et al, 2018) should be evaluated in breeding programs as well. The sequence information on rye GA2ox genes might support the integration of these valuable alleles in elite rye germplasm using precision breeding approaches.…”

“…As mentioned in the Introduction, other trisomics than primary trisomics have been isolated in rye, and have been used in genetic experimentation (Melz & Schlegel, 1985). The telocentric 5RS was used to locate the arm in which the genes br and ti are located (Sybenga & Mastenbroek, 1980).…”

“…The telocentric 5RS was used to locate the arm in which the genes br and ti are located (Sybenga & Mastenbroek, 1980). A telocentric set derived from the 'Esto' primary trisomics (see above) and its use in gene localization has been reported by Lindner et al (1984), Melz & Schlegel (1985) and Melz (1988). In 1987 Zeller et al described a set of telocentric trisomics derived from the primary trisomics of Heines Hellkorn (see above), and their hybridization with an addition set of rye chromosomes to wheat.…”

“…The C-banding technique was also successfully applied to trisomic and telotrisomic rye lines (Zeller et al 1977;Melz and Schlegel 1985). In primary trisomic lines one complete chromosome is triplicated.…”

“…However, it is well known that Giemsa C-banding techniques permit the identification of individual chromosomes and chromosome segments in cultivated rye. Numerous studies have been carried out to recognize rye chromosomes either in diploid rye or in wheat-rye hybrids (Gill and Kimber 1974;Darvey and Gustafson 1975;Singh and Robbelen 1976;Lelley et al 1978;Schlegel et al 1985;Seal 1982;Seal and Bennett 1981;Sybenga 1983;Gustafson et al 1983;Cermefio and Lacadena 1985;Badaev et al 1985).…”
