Identification of plasma miRNA biomarkers for pregnancy detection in dairy cattle

Abstract: Mammals should reproduce to be able to lactate. Estrus detection, artificial insemination (AI) and pregnancy diagonosis are routinely performed. Good reproductive management in dairy farms is reliant on early and precise diagnosis of pregnancy. Currently, several pregnancy diagnosis tools including the rectal palpation, ultrasonography, milk progesterone test, and preganncy-associated glycoproteins have been widely utilized. Any direct or indirect method for pregnancy diagnosis must accurately distinguish betw… Show more

“…Among these, 22 were differentially expressed in microarray results upon pregnancy groups were compared with cyclic ( Table 1 ). The results may indicate that circulating plasma miRNAs may function as potential biomarkers in the regulation of pregnancy during the estrous cycle and early pregnancy ( Ioannidis and Donadeu, 2017 ; Lim et al, 2021 ).…”

“…There were 208 miRNAs found in cattle, and comparing plasma samples taken from pregnant and non-pregnant animals, sixteen showed differential expression ( Ioannidis and Donadeu, 2016 ). According to these findings, it may be inferred that plasma miRNAs are circulating and may function as biomarkers for early pregnancy and the estrous cycle ( Lim et al, 2021 ).…”

“…[ 29 ] For instance, the increase of bta‐mir‐140 in Exos correlates with early pregnancy in cows. [ 30 ] Regarding the fact that the metabolic status of parent cells can affect the exosomal content, thus FF Exos can be used as a prognostic and diagnostic tool for real‐time health monitoring of source cells in terms of fertility in females. [ 15 ] However, small volumes of FF samples and a lack of standard isolation protocol are the main challenges associated with the application of Exos for monitoring the physiology of the female reproductive system.…”
