Identification of helminth parasites diversity on laying chicken in jember district (East Java – Indonesia)

Abstract: One of several factors that can decrease productivity of laying chicken is health problems caused by worm parasite (helminthiasis). The aim of this research is to identify the diversity of worm parasites in laying chicken in Jember District. Obtained information on worm parasite species can be used as a database for prevention and treatment strategies of helminthiasis in laying chicken in Jember District. One-hundred-and fifty laying chicken excreta samples were randomly collected in the Jember area which was … Show more

“…This finding is the same as the results of Zalizar et al (2021). Damayanti et al (2019) found the same 4 endoparasite species in Madura, more than the findings of Kusuma et al (2021) in Jember, which only found 3 endoparasite species without finding A. galli. But is less than the results of Hariani and Simanjuntak (2021), who found 8 species of endoparasites with the greatest chance of A. galli in East Kalimantan.…”

This difference in species composition may be caused by differences in climate, especially rainfall, where our research location is in an area with high rainfall compared to other places.…”

“…The Jember district of East Java province study showed that helminths infection prevalence in laying chickens is mostly caused by Ascaridia galli (60%) (Kusuma et al 2021). However, Molla et al (2012) in Ethiopia reported that the prevalence of helminths infections in free-range chickens reached 79.62%, and Abdullah and Mohammed (2013) study at Sulaimani Region, Iraq, found that the common endo-parasite was Heterakis gallinarum 81%.…”
