Significance and impact of the study: Bacterial strains isolated from bovine subclinical mastitis were identified as Enterococcus faecalis and Enterococcus mundtii. Enterococcus faecalis and E. mundtii strains recovered from different farms were mostly clonal, suggesting possible cross-transmission among animals in the region. Biofilms were produced by E. faecalis and E. mundtii strains grown in milk. Rearrangement of the actin cytoskeleton in host epithelial cells was induced by E. faecalis and E. mundtii strains, leading to formation of stress fibers during the infectious process.
