The Rio Sapucaí basin, in Minas Gerais State, Brazil, is one of the many watersheds of the upper Rio Paraná system. Ichthyofauna surveys in this basin, in general, are scarce. In addition, small rivers and streams of the region have been targets of anthropogenic actions (e.g., pollution) - which suggest that more ichthyological studies must be performed within the watershed. In this study we provide a survey of species that occur within three streams of the lower Rio Sapucaí basin. Samples were collected in April, July, and November 2017 and in May 2018. Collections resulted in 349 individuals belonging to 28 species, five orders, and 12 families. Among our findings are three putatively undescribed species and the first record of Oligosarcus argenteus and Pareiorhina hyptiorhachis within the Rio Paraná system.

Freshwater ichthyofauna from Brazil Northeast region was considered as being poorly known until recent years, with a considerable number of publications becoming available in the last decade. The present study provides an inventory of freshwater fish species from the Paraíba do Norte River basin located in Paraíba State, Brazil. This inventory is intended to contribute to the of knowledge to the regional fish diversity, pre-transposition of the São Francisco River. Collecting data was obtained from ichthyological databases of both national and foreign institutions. A total of 47 freshwater fish species are registered within the Paraíba do Norte River basin, represented by 38 genera, 20 families and six orders. Characiformes, comprising 47% (22 species), Cichliformes, and Siluriformes are among the most representative orders, 19% (9 species) each, of total recorded species. Seven species of Cichliformes are reported as introduced species in this basin. Cyprinodontiformes and Gobiiformes also registered in this region and correspond to 5% (two species) and Gymnotiformes, Perciformes and Synbranchiformes, 2% (one species each) of total recorded species. Paraíba do Norte River basin stands out in the current national scenario as it comprises the first region from the Mid-Northeastern Caatinga freshwater ecoregion to receive water from the transposition of the São Francisco River. The current inventory is important as it provides scientific data related to the ichthyofauna of Paraíba do Norte River basin prior to the commencement of the river transposition process. An identification key is also given for the freshwater fish species of the region.

<p class="04CorpodoTexto">Nos últimos anos, houve um esforço considerável de pesquisas com o intuito de identificar e avaliar o estado de conservação das espécies de peixes que ocorrem em ambientes dulcícolas. Entretanto, algumas regiões do Brasil carecem de informações dessa natureza. A exemplo, temos a região da bacia hidrográfica do rio Tocantins. Nessa rede de drenagem, diversas alterações ambientais têm causado um declínio na biodiversidade local, dentre as quais, destaca-se: supressão da mata ciliar, descarte de efluentes, construção de hidroelétrica, dentre outras atividades. Isso sugere a necessidade de estudos que avaliem a composição e o estado de conservação das espécies de peixes. Com base nisso, buscou-se descrever e atualizar o estado de conservação da ictiofauna do rio Tocantins, bacia Araguaia-Tocantins. O estudo foi realizado a partir de pesquisa bibliográfica, posteriormente, os dados coletados foram tabulados em planilha eletrônica e as estatísticas executadas no programa PAST. Os resultados do estudo fornecem informações atualizadas sobre o estado de conservação de 395 espécies de peixes do rio Tocantins. Dentre as quais, 69 não foram avaliadas, 30 não possuem dados suficientes, 11 estão quase ameaçadas e poderão se enquadrar em uma categoria de ameaça nos próximos anos, e 30 estão ameaçadas de extinção. Esses resultados servirão como suporte para ações de planejamento, programas de monitoramento e conservação da ictiofauna, uma vez que, estratégias de conservação eficazes precisam de informações precisas e representativas sobre a ocorrência e distribuição das espécies.</p>
