rEsumo objetivo: Este trabalho apresenta as normas brasileiras de 240 novos estímulos do International Affective Picture System (IAPS), instrumento de imagens afetivas amplamente utilizado em pesquisas, e estabelece comparações com os valores da normatização americana. mé-todos: Participaram voluntariamente 448 estudantes universitários brasileiros (269 mulheres e 179 homens), com idade média de 24,2 anos (DP = 7,8), que avaliaram as fotografias do IAPS pelas dimensões prazer, alerta e dominância por intermédio das escalas do Self Assessment Manikin (SAM). Os dados foram comparados entre as populações por correlações lineares de Pearson e testes t de Student. resultados: As correlações foram altamente significativas para todas as dimensões, porém as médias de alerta dos brasileiros foram mais elevadas do que as dos norte-americanos. Conclusão: Os resultados mostram estabilidade com a primeira parte da normatização brasileira e boa consistência com os valores da normatização norte-americana, a despeito de pequenas diferenças concernentes à interpretação da dimensão alerta. Fica demonstrado que o IAPS é instrumento confiável para estudos experimentais na população brasileira. ResumoOs estudos de memória emocional para eventos complexos sugerem que o alerta aumenta o desempenho da memória de longo prazo para informações centrais e periféricas. No entanto, poucos estudos investigaram o efeito do alerta nas distorções mnemônicas. No intuito de investigar a relação entre o alerta e as memórias verdadeiras e falsas para informações centrais e periféricas, um teste de reconhecimento foi desenvolvido. O teste foi baseado na adaptação brasileira do Procedimento de Apresentação de Slides de Cahill e McGaugh (1995). O teste foi respondido por 168 estudantes universitários uma semana depois de assistirem ou a versão neutra ou a estimulante do Procedimento. A versão estimulante foi responsável pelo aumento da recuperação de informações verdadeiras periféricas e falsas centrais. Palavras-chave: Memória, memória falsa, emoção, alerta emocional. AbstractStudies on emotional memory for complex events suggest that arousal enhances long-term memory for central and peripheral information. Few studies, however, have addressed arousal effect on memory distortion. Aiming to investigate the relationship between arousal and true/false memories for central and peripheral information, a recognition test was developed. The test was supported by the Brazilian adaptation of the Cahill and McGaugh's (1995) slideshow procedure. The test was answered by 168 university students one week after they had watched either the low or the high emotional arousal version of the procedure. The arousal version of the story was responsible for better memory retrieval of true peripheral information and false central information. A infl uência da emoção sobre a memória interfere diretamente em áreas aplicadas da psicologia, como a Psicologia Clínica (Pergher, Stein, & Wainer, 2004) e a Psicologia Forense (Stein & Nygaard, 2003), nas quais o trabalho do profi ssional depende de relatos sobre situações frequentemente permeadas por emoções desagradáveis. Abstract. To enhance communication among users through technology, we propose a framework that communicates 'pure experience.' This framework can be achieved by providing emotionally charged communication. To initiate this undertaking, we propose to explore materials for communicating human emotions. Research on emotion mainly focuses on emotions that are relevant to utilitarian concerns. Besides the commonly-known emotions like joy and fear, there are non-utilitarian emotions, such as aesthetic emotions, which are essential to our daily lives. Based on Jung's theory of collective unconsciousness, we consider archetypal content as a new category of affective stimuli of non-utilitarian emotions. We collected pictures and sounds of the archetype of the self, and conducted an experiment with existing affective stimuli of utilitarian emotions. The results showed that archetypal content is potential to be a new category of affective content. It is promising to explore other affective content for further studies.
