I will do it tomorrow! Exploring the dimensionality of procrastination in Poland

Abstract: The aim of this study was to analyze the psychometric properties of the widely used general procrastination, decisional procrastination, and adult inventory of procrastination scales in both undergraduate and adult Polish populations. Polish versions of these scales were filled out by 390 student and 513 adult participants. Principal component analysis indicated one-factor structure for each scale. The pattern of loadings was congruent between student and adult samples. The item-total correlation coefficients … Show more

“…Three pacing styles have been identified: early action, deadline action and steady action (Gevers et al., 2006), and these are likely to be relevant for understanding how someone would respond to a wait. Those who procrastinate, or favour deadline action, tend to engage in purposive and frequent delays in either starting or completing a task, leading to impaired achievements and distress (Jansen and Kristof-Brown, 2005; Prezepiorka et al., 2016). Such individuals may make less negative appraisals of waiting compared with others.…”

“…In this regard, it has been documented that one thing that differentiates what should be done from what is actually done is lack of motivation [36,37]. However, in recent years, procrastination has begun to be analysed as a multidimensional phenomenon, based on procrastination behaviours evaluated by scales [38][39][40][41]. In this regard, Díaz-Morales et al [39], when analysing the factorial structure of three procrastination scales (jointly administered in the Spanish adult population) identified four components: dilatory behaviours, indecision, lack of punctuality, and lack of planning.…”
