Solanum tuberosum L. cv Jayoung Epidermis Extract Inhibits Mite Antigen-Induced Atopic Dermatitis in NC/Nga Mice by Regulating the Th1/Th2 Balance and Expression of Filaggrin

Abstract: Solanum tuberosum L. cv Jayoung (JY) is a potato with dark purple flesh and contains substantial amounts of polyphenols. In this study, we evaluated the therapeutic effects of S. tuberosum L. cv JY in a mouse model of Dermatophagoides farinae body (Dfb)-induced atopic dermatitis (AD). The ethanol extract of the peel of JY (EPJ) ameliorated Dfb-induced dermatitis severity, serum levels of immunoglobulin E (IgE) and thymus and activation-regulated chemokine. Histological analysis of the skin also revealed that E… Show more

“…The loss of the immunological balance between Th1 and Th2 cells is one of major pathogenic events occurring in AD [39]. Acute AD skin lesions exhibit Th2-dominant responses characterized by dermal infiltration of CD4 + or CD8 + T cells and eosinophils, as well as upregulated skin expression of Th2 cytokines [40]. However, Th1 responses are characterized by the production of effector cytokines, such as TNF- α and IFN- γ .…”

“…PP extract contained the highest phenolic content with potential antioxidant and antidiabetic properties (Arun et al ., ). The ethanol extract of PP obtained from coloured potato cultivar (Jayoung) showed an inhibitory effect against the development of atopic dermatitis in a mouse model (Yang et al .,). It can be used as a safe and effective therapeutic tool for the treatment of atopic dermatitis.…”

“…Clinical dermatitis severity was evaluated using the method according to the scoring system [ 13 ] as follows: The severity of dermatitis was evaluated from the start to the end of the experiment. The development of skin symptoms, erythema/hemorrhage, scarring/dryness, edema, and excoriation/erosion, was scored as follows: 0, none; 1, mild (<20%); 2, moderate (20–60%); or 3, severe (>60%).…”
