Abstract

Ha.lo.ru.bra.ce'ae. N.L. neut. n. Halorubrum type genus of the family; ‐ aceae ending to denote a family; N.L. fem. pl. n. Halorubraceae the family of Halorubrum . Euryarchaeota / Halobacteria / Haloferacales / Halorubraceae The family Halorubraceae consists of seven genera: Halorubrum (the type genus), Halobaculum , Halohasta , Halolamina , Halonotius , Halopenitus , and Salinigranum . Nearly, all members of the family are neutrophilic extremely halophilic Archaea, mostly red‐pink pigmented and generally leading an aerobic life style. Based on phylogenomic analyses, the family was removed from the Halobacteriaceae in 2016 and reclassified within the order Haloferacales .
