“…This finding in the northern part of the Adriatic Sea may represent a vagrant fish. This phenomenon of a single specimen found a great distance from its normal geographical distribution has been documented in several other species (Davis & Wheeler, 1985; Lipej et al ., 1996; Parenti & Bressi, 2001; Dulčić et al , 2004). Another possibility is that this species has extended its distribution from an established population from the Red Sea, entering the Mediterranean Sea via the Suez Canal.…”

“…This finding may represent a case of a vagrant fish. This phenomenon of a single specimen found a great distance from its normal geographical distribution has been documented for other species (Orsi‐Relini, 1990, 2002; Lipej et al , 1996; Parenti & Bressi, 2001). Because of its geographical distribution in colder waters, this record in the Adriatic Sea was surprising.…”

“…The surprising finding of C. reticulatus on the shoreline of the Mediterranean Sea appears to be a case of a 'vagrant fish'. The phenomenon of a single specimen found at great distance from its normal geographical distribution has been documented for other species (Orsi-Relini, 1990Lipej et al, 1996;Parenti & Bressi, 2001;Dulcˇic´& Golani, 2006). Because the geographical distribution of the Indian Ocean population of C. reticulatus does not include the Red Sea (Leis, 2006), it is unlikely that the specimen entered the Mediterranean Sea via the Suez Canal.…”
