In vitro immunomodulatory activity of flavonoid glycosides from Urtica dioica L.

Abstract: The major compounds isolated from the methanolic extract of the aerial parts of Urtica dioica L. were determined as quercetin-3-O-rutinoside (1). kaempherol-3-O-rutinoside (2). and isorhamnetin-3-O-glucoside (3). by chromatographic, chemical (acidic hydrolysis) and spectral (UV, IR, (1)H-NMR, (13)C-NMR) methods. Their immunomodulatory activities were studied in vitro by chemotaxis (Boyden Migration Chamber) and intracellular killing activity (NBT reduction) tests. Compounds 1, 2, 3 and the total flavonoid frac… Show more

“…The chemical constituents of aqueous nettle leaf extracts are diverse and over 100 compounds have been described including polyphenols (eugenol, flavones), phytosterols (cholecalciferol, carnosol) and flavonoids such as quercitin and Kaempherol [15,25,26). Carnosol has demonstrated anti-proliferative activity against LNCaP cells [27] and more interestingly the compounds quercitin and kaempferol have been shown to induce apoptotic death of LNCaP cells via PARP cleavage and DNA fragmentation [28] and could be responsible for the cytotoxic activities seen in the current study.…”

“…Alcalóides (ROBERTS et al, 1982, BUCK et al, 1986AKBAY et al, 2003) e saponinas (SONODA et al, 1998) isolados de extratos de plantas medicinais têm demonstrado capacidade de interferir nos mecanismos responsáveis pela locomoção de leucócitos. As plantas do gênero Rauwolfia são fontes ricas de alcalóides, sendo que vários deles já foram identificados (Batista et al, 1996), particularmente para a R. sellowii, Müll.…”
